Education

In the Education Team at FuturesLab, we explore new and smart ways to make learning more engaging and easier to understand using VR, AR, AI, and serious games. Many schools want to work with modern technology, but they often lack the time, knowledge, or good examples to get started. That’s why we create prototypes that show how technology can truly support learning in the classroom.

In our space at MindLabs, we talk with teachers and students to understand what they need. We work on ideas and test them out, from improved learning games to an AR app that supports students in tough situations. By involving users throughout the process and letting them try things out, we discover what works well and what still needs attention. We also collaborate with educational organizations to make learning materials more accessible and user-friendly. This might be a clearer manual, an interactive explanation, or an AI-powered tool that supports teachers.

The Education Team wants to show that learning is not just about books and screens, it’s about experiences. By using technology in a creative and practical way, we work toward education that fits the world of today and tomorrow. In doing so, we help teachers, support students, and create new ways to grow and learn together.

Our Projects

Education is divided into different projects. We’ve a few projects to highlight and the introduction is given down below:

🚲Bicycle game🚲: Continued development of a game focused on teaching the students of the “Yonder ISK” the rules of the road and how bikes are used on the road. In the game you collect bicycle parts while avoiding road obstacles. Currently the team members are working on the animation and the collectable system.

🛟Lifeguard-VR🛟: Lifeguard-VR was scheduled to continue building further on the project. But due to some issues with the previous version, the Lifeguard VR will be rebranded and rebuilt to create a new, unique environment. Lifeguard-VR is a learning tool focusing on providing context on how a lifeguard operates and what steps need to be taken into account while saving lives. Currently, the idea is being built out after the ideation for a new idea.

📚Zwijsen📚: This project is a new project in collaboration with Zwijsen. This project focuses on adding a feature to the Zwijsen portal to make the lives of teachers easier. Currently they have to read a whole guide for providing a lesson to students. This can be shortened, and that’s exactly where the challenge is. Previously the research was performed on gaining the right information about what the stakeholder wants. After that research, the design and idea are being made into reality.

🧰EHBO-VR🧰: EHBO-VR is an educational game aimed at students of Yonder to provide a solution to teach the students how to operate safely in the CPR phase. So, actions like ordering someone to call 911, getting an AED, and making the environment safe to perform the CPR. The environment got a whole makeover, and currently some animations and first actions are being implemented into the game.

😡AR-Aggression trainer😡: Last but not least. AR-Aggression-Trainer is a new development focusing on teaching Yonder students how to handle customers who can be aggressive towards them. The experience is meant to teach students by doing, where the students place an AR headset on their head and AI provides feedback on the tone of voice, expression, and movement of the hands to let the situation de-escalate or calm down. The system has been designed, and the AI system was built. The next step is connecting the AI system with Unity and making an automated feedback system for the user to collect the feedback.
